CHANDIGARH: The family of 2001-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Y. Puran Kumar, who committed suicide in Chandigarh last week, gave consent to conduct the autopsy, the ninth day after the incident. The officer will be cremated at around 4 p.m. at the Chandigarh cremation ground, officials said.

PHAGWARA: A wave of tension swept through Eastwood village near Phagwara late Tuesday late evening when a group of armed assailants opened fire on a local bouncer, leaving him seriously injured. The victim, identified as Sandeep Kumar of Phagwara was deployed on security duty in the area when he was attacked by around five to six men carrying firearms. 

AMRITSAR: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing special checking and special operations to ensure safe and peaceful festive season as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar has apprehended three persons and recovered yet another weapons consignment comprising one AK-47 rifle along with two magazines and 60 live cartridges and three 9MM Glock pistols along with seven magazines and 50 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday. 

ISLAMABAD: A Levies constable deployed for the protection of polio vaccination team was shot dead after unidentified assailants opened fire on him in the Swat district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday according to the police authorities, local media reported.
