PHAGWARA: A young man from Mand Baupur village in Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division is feared dead after allegedly being murdered by three persons, who are accused of disposing of his body in the Beas River. The victim, identified as Rahul, had gone missing while returning home late at night after finishing work in Sultanpur Lodhi. Police have arrested three accused in connection with the case and launched a search operation to recover the body.
According to police and family members, Rahul left Sultanpur Lodhi for his village on the night of the incident but failed to reach home. Concerned over his disappearance, relatives searched for him throughout the night but were unable to locate him or establish contact. The following morning, his motorcycle was found abandoned near the road leading to village Baupur, a short distance from the Beas River bridge. The discovery raised suspicions of foul play, prompting the family and villagers to inform the police.
Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and examined CCTV footage installed along the route between Sultanpur Lodhi and village Baupur. During the review of the footage, investigators reportedly observed a red-coloured car travelling behind Rahul. The lead helped police trace the vehicle and identify the suspects allegedly involved in the crime.
Sultanpur Lodhi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhirendra Verma said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a woman. Police suspect that the woman’s husband, along with two accomplices, murdered Rahul and subsequently disposed of his body in the river in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The DSP confirmed that an FIR has been registered against all three accused and that they have been taken into custody. Meanwhile, teams of divers have been deployed in the Beas River to search for the victim’s body. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events and gather additional evidence in the case.A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
