AMRITSAR: Addressing a large gathering organized in memory of the martyrs of June 1984 at Gurudwara Gurudarshan Prakash, Mehta Chowk (Amritsar), Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, said that the entire Sikh Panth needs to unite and struggle for the release of the Bandi Singhs (imprisoned Sikh prisoners). He stated that whether it requires launching protests or pursuing legal battles, all sikh organizations and congregations should come together on one platform and fulfill this responsibility.
Addressing Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, he said that if any major initiative is launched for the release of the Bandi Singhs, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will stand at the forefront and contribute fully. He added that those Singhs who have spent 35 years or more in prison and made sacrifices for the Sikh community deserve justice, and efforts to secure their release are the duty of the entire Panth.
Kalka expressed concern over the large-scale religious conversion activities taking place in Punjab and stressed that the issue needs to be taken seriously. He said that if preachers of other religions can spread their message to thousands of people, then the Sikh community possesses the unparalleled sacrifices, martyrdoms, and proud history of the Sikh Gurus, which must be taken to every household and especially to the younger generation.
He emphasized that it is one of the greatest needs of the time to educate youth about the great martyrdoms of Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh, and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, along with other significant sacrifices in Sikh history. He said that if the spirit of Sikh history is instilled in the hearts of young people, no Sikh family will drift away from Sikhism.
He appealed to Damdami Taksal, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, and all Panthic organizations to develop a joint and effective strategy for the propagation of Sikhism. He stated that political parties will continue to do their work, but the primary responsibility of Panthic institutions is to protect Sikh principles, history, and Punjabi
