AAP govt has betrayed farmers & the common man by failing to supply adequate power to them - Sukhbir Badal
CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had failed both the farmers of the State as well as the industry and the common man by failing to supply adequate power which was endangering the agricultural economy of the State.
In a statement here, the SAD president said the AAP government had not only failed to add power generation but had failed to maintain the existing generation and distribution system. “Six out of the ten thermal power plant units have been shut due to technical issues. Similarly many power grids are out of order. All of this is resulting in massive power outages which are drying up paddy seedlings even as people are suffering sleepless nights”.
Mr Sukhbir Badal said farmers had come on the roads as the government was impervious to their suffering. “No effort is being taken to purchase appropriate power needed to meet the demand or to change damaged transformers or conduct urgent repairs at power grids. Even canal water is not reaching tail ends indicating lack of planning on this critical issue”.
The SAD president said farmers had been left to their fate even as chief minister Bhagwant Mann was busy in drumming up support for himself by hiring crowds for his public functions. “This desperate bid to confront the Sri Akal Takht instead of admitting his sacrilegious conduct has paralysed administration and farmers as well as the common persons are suffering due to this”.
Mr Badal said if the Guru Dokhi and Panth Virodhi chief minister was truly concerned about the State he would have made efforts to add new power generation units to meet the growing power demand. He said earlier the erstwhile Congress government had also failed to add a single mega watt power to the State kitty during its tenure in power. “The SAD during its stint from 2007 to 2017 had made Punjab power surplus. But subsequent governments have failed to meet the growing demand resulting in the present day crisis”.
Telling Punjabis that power generation and distribution would be on the top priorities of the next SAD government, Mr Badal said “we are committed to providing round the clock uninterrupted power supply to both the rural and urban areas in the State, with also 12 hours day-supply for tubewell connections”
