CHANDIGARH: After the backing out by the two firms who promised to supply 500 MW, the power position has not improved at all in Haryana. The regulator had approved the power purchase from two companies this week.
Haryana is facing a power shortage of 440 lakh units with demand shortage between 1350 to 2850 MW at different times of the day leading to the imposition of power cuts for more than 8 hours in urban areas and of longer duration in rural areas.
As per Northern India Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC) , there is a shortage of 440 lakh units on Friday while power supply in the state was 1560 lakh units. The power demand is 2005 lakh units.
The maximum demand met in the state has exceeded 8800 MW with a shortage of2825 MW during night hours.
Haryana hopes to arrange 1500 MW of power in the next 10 days. The negotiation for a1000 MW power purchase is going on with Adani and Tata for the last so many days.. In the adjoining Punjab power supply improved marginally after all the 8 units at Ropar and Lehra Mohabatt thermals are operating In the private sector 5 out of 7 units are operating. On Friday there was a shortage of 200 lakh units.
