UP withdraws Discom privatization proposal, stir ends

CHANDIGARH:UP Government withdraws privatization proposal of Poorvanchal Discom
as per the agreement signed after the meeting held by state power minister
Shrikant Sharma and finance minister Suresh Khanna with the leaders of
striking engineers and employees and all employees joined duty today.
V K Gupta spokesperson All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) said that
as per agreement all the reforms will be done in the existing infrastructure of
Discoms and no privatization will be done in the UP power sector without taking
power employees in confidence.

Poorvanchal Discom caters to Varanasi, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Sant Rabidas Nagar , Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Mau, Ballia,
Deoria, Kushi Nagar, Gorakhpur areas .

The employees in the power department of the Uttar Pradesh government
today joined their duties after two days work boycott in response to a call
given by the UP Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti to protest against
the proposed privatization of the discom, which resulted in long power cuts
in many parts of the state.

AIPEF decries the role of central government towards their decision to transfer public assets of the power sector to their private cronies. The government of India is equally responsible as it is rushing through privatization of the electricity
industry through Electricity
