CHANDIGARH:Lakhs of power sector employees and engineers across the country observed the nationwide protest
by holding demonstrations and protest meetings at all districts and projects against privatization to show solidarity
with UP power engineers and employees, said V K Gupta spokesperson
All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF).
The protest meetings were held under the banner of National
Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE)
in all the states and union territories, including Maharashtra,
Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh,
among others.
UP power employees started their indefinite work boycott today after the two rounds of talks held on Saturday and Sunday failed to yield any outcome. The management stressed that the process of privatization of Varanasi Discom cannot be stopped.
There was a written Agreement on 05 April 2018 between the Shrikant Sharma State Energy Minister and engineers/employees that the improvement in Discoms functioning would be achieved within the existing Discom structure and without privatizing. Now UP government is violating the agreement without any basis.
Employees and engineers working on essential duties have been exempted from work boycott.
Haryana Power Engineers Association held the circle level
meetings across the state to protest against Electricity
Amendment Bill 2020 and to support UP power engineers protest against the privatization of Varanasi Discom and nonacceptance of their long-pending demands.
