Punjab to prepare online directory of high breed cattle

MUKATSAR SAHIB: The animal husbandry department Punjab has started scheme to prepare online directory of the best breed of cattle in state. The Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had floated the idea of starting this online database during the National Livestock Championship enabling the animal rearers to easily identify cattle of quality breed and the dairy farmers are encouraged.

The Deputy Commissioner Mr Jaskiran Singh said here today that in line with the suggestion by CM, the animal husbandry Department is now preparing online directory of cows and buffaloes in state.Dr Naresh Sachdeva was also present with him.

Jaskiran Singh said free registration has begun for Sahiwal, HF and jersey breeds of cows, Murrah and Neeli Ravi breeds of buffaloes. The animal owners can contact the nearest veterinary hospital. Registration can be done for Sahiwal giving 14 Liter milk, HF cow giving 25 liter milk, jersey cow giving 21 liter milk, Murrah buffalo giving more than 18 liter milk and Neeli Ravo buffalo giving 14 liter of milk. After every 28 days, the animal husbandry department officials will get the animal milked 10 times in their presence. They will then calculate the average milk production. If the milk produced is more than given average, the department will upload information about such animal online. This information database will include name and address of animal’s owner, mobile number, age of animal, milk produced, information about calves, number of times the animal has given birth etc. The data, uploaded on online directory, will enable the animal owners to buy and sell the best quality of animal.

Dr Naresh Sachdeva said under this project 192 HF cows, 39 Sahiwal cows and 30 jersey cows have been identified. Similarly 303 Murrah buffaloes and 83 Neeli Ravi buffaloes have been identified. The animal husbandry department will get these animals milked under its inspection. He appealed the cattle owners to get their cattle registered at veterinary hospitals near them.
