AMRITSAR: The echoes of shunning drugs was writ large during the annual two-day long cultural and prize distribution function ``Goonj; The Resonance’’ at Khalsa College Public School (KCPS), here today. The play depicting life and miseries of a youth portrayed how drugs have penetrated deep into the society’s fabric and shattering the families.

On the first day former Education Minister Dr.Upinderjit Kaur, said in her presidential remarks that drugs were playing havoc with the society and the youth was getting trapped in its vicious circle. Dr. Sharnjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar GNDU, and Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, also said that awareness drives and government’s initiative to control widespread availability of drugs was must to end the menace.

Principal Dr. Sarvjit Brar extended warm welcome to the worthy guests and presented annual school report highlighting the achievements of the students in various scholastic as well as co- scholastic activities. Meanwhile, the students gave mesmerizing dance performances of Sufi singing, Jugni, Arabic Dance, Gidda, Bhangra, and kept everyone spell bound by presenting pyramids, gymnastic, martial art, skating and gatka.

On the second day today, DIG, BSF MF Farooqui and KCGC additional honourary secretary Sawinder Singh Kathunangal, presided over the function. They gave away prizes to the students who excelled in the academic, sports and extra-curricular activities. As many as 25 sportspersons who brought laurels to the school at state as well as national level were also awarded with tracksuits, trophies and merit certificates.

Others president during the function included KCGC finance secretary Gunbir Singh, SS Abdal, AS Heir, SS Mannan, Princiapls of various Khalsa Institutions.
