Torrent Power acquires Rajpura thermal for 3632.35 crores
CHANDIGARH: Torrent Power has acquired Rajpura thermal from L&T Power Development Limited for ₹3632.35 crore effective June 25, 2026 following approval from the Competition Commission of India.
Torrent Power completed the acquisition of 100% equity shares and convertible instruments of Nabha Power Limited. Rajpura thermal became a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power. L and T power development ltd. operated a 1,400 MW (2x700 MW) supercritical thermal power plant in Rajpura, Punjab. The acquisition boosts Torrent Power's operational thermal generation capacity from 5 GW to roughly 6.4 GW.
Torrent Power had previously intimated the exchanges regarding the execution of the agreement and the receipt of this regulatory approval on February 16, 2026, and April 08, 2026, respectively. . The Rajpura thermal plant supplies electricity under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, ensuring steady cash flow.
Torrent Power is engaged in the business of power generation, transmission, distribution and manufacturing and supply of power transmission cables, and is a part of 'Torrent Group,' which is into power, pharmaceuticals and gas distribution sectors.
