PHAGWARA: Shiv Sena Punjab on Saturday organized a solemn tribute ceremony at the historic Shri Hanumangarhi Temple in Phagwara to commemorate the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Operation Blue Star on June 6, 1984, and the innocent civilians and devotees who were killed in the crossfire during the military operation. The gathering remembered the sacrifices made by both security personnel and civilians and called for preserving peace, national unity and communal harmony.
A large number of Shiv Sena Punjab leaders, members and local residents participated in the programme. Those present paid floral tributes to the martyrs and observed a two-minute silence in their memory. The ceremony was attended by Shiv Sena Punjab Senior State Vice Presidents Inderjit Karwal and Rajesh Palta, State Spokesperson Vipan Sharma, City President Ankur Bedi and SHO Rawalpindi Major Singh, who attended as a special guest. Several other party leaders and social activists were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers stated that the sacrifices made by soldiers in the line of duty for protecting the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the nation would always remain a source of inspiration for future generations. They said that the courage and dedication displayed by the armed forces during one of the most challenging periods in Punjab’s history deserved the highest respect and recognition.
Senior leaders Inderjit Karwal and Rajesh Palta described the era of militancy and terrorism in Punjab as a dark chapter in the history of India. They emphasized that people must learn valuable lessons from those tragic events and work collectively to promote peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
The leaders further stated that while the bravery of the soldiers who laid down their lives in the discharge of their duties should never be forgotten, equal respect and sympathy should also be extended to the innocent devotees and civilians who became victims of violence and crossfire during the operation. They said that every life lost during those turbulent times represented a painful tragedy and deserved remembrance.
Speaking on the occasion, SHO Major Singh said that violence, extremism and terrorism are harmful to both society and the nation.
