PHAGWARA: Raising slogans against doctors of Civil Hospital Phagwara and demanding strict action over alleged medical negligence, leaders and members of Yuva Vikas Morcha Phagwara on Friday staged a protest outside the hospital under the leadership of its president Anu Sahota following the death of an unborn child during delivery procedures.
The protesters accused SMO Civil Hospital Phagwara Dr. Simerdeep Kaur and Dr. Manjit Naagar of negligence and irresponsible behaviour in handling the case of Kiran, wife of Sagar Kaler, a resident of Khera Nangal, Phagwara, Kapurthala. Demonstrators alleged that delay in conducting the delivery resulted in the death of the unborn baby inside the womb.
During the protest, activists of the organisation raised slogans against the doctors and extended support to the grieving family while demanding immediate legal and departmental action against those responsible.
Addressing the media, Sagar Kaler alleged that his wife Kiran was pregnant with their third child and had been undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Phagwara under the supervision of Dr. Simerdeep Kaur and Dr. Manjit Naagar. He stated that May 4, 2026, was the scheduled delivery date and the family had reached the hospital early in the morning for the delivery.
However, he alleged that despite their repeated requests and the critical condition of the patient, the doctors failed to perform their duties on time and delayed the delivery procedure till the afternoon. According to him, the delay in medical intervention led to the death of the unborn child in the womb.
Calling the incident a case of gross medical negligence, Sagar Kaler appealed to SP Phagwara and the health authorities to take strict action against the doctors concerned and ensure justice for his family.
Members of Yuva Vikas Morcha warned that if no action was initiated by the administration, the organisation would intensify its agitation in the coming days. They also demanded accountability from the hospital administration and stressed the need for responsible healthcare services in government hospitals.
The protest concluded peacefully after the demonstrators submitted their demands to the authorities. No official response had been issued by the hospital administration or the doctors concerned till the filing of this report.Despite repeated attempts none from health dept could be contacted.
