AMRITSAR: It is a great injustice to arrest the leaders of the National Justice Front, who were peacefully marching towards the Parliament House after praying at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib in Delhi demanding the release of the imprisoned Sikhs.
This was expressed by Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, while reacting to the arrest of Sikh leaders by the police.
Advocate Dhami said that for nearly three decades, the Sikh community has been continuously raising its voice for the release of Sikhs detained in jails, but the governments have always ignored the Sikh sentiments. He said that according to the constitution of the country, every citizen has the right to protest peacefully for their legitimate demands, but this right is also being taken away from the Sikhs in the capital of the country.
He said that forcibly arresting the leaders of the National Justice Front who were holding a protest march and locking them up in different police stations is an act of suppressing the voice of justice. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee strongly condemns this.
He said that the imprisoned Singhs who fought against the atrocities committed against the community have spent much more time in jails than the sentences given by the court. In this same country, when the governments can release people of other religions by reducing their sentences, why is injustice being done to Sikhs?
He demanded that the government, understanding the sentiments of the community, should announce the commutation of the sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and the immediate release of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and other Singhs. They also called for the immediate release of the protest leaders.
