AMRITSAR: A Jatha of 541 devotees from left for Pakistan today amidst cheers and chants under the leadership of SGPC members S. Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan and S. Gurmeet Singh Booh to celebrate the martyrdom anniversary of the fifth Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
On the occasion of departure, Secretary of Dharam Prachar Committee S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Personal Secretary S. Shahbaz Singh, Additional Secretary S. Bijay Singh, S. Jaswinder Singh Jassi, S. Preetpal Singh, S. Bhagwant Singh Dhangera felicitated the leaders of the Jatha with Siropas.
This Jatha will celebrate Shaheedi Purab at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib Lahore on June 18 and return to the country on June 19.
On this occasion, Shiromani Committee member S. Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, who was leading the Jatha, said that it was the desire of the Sikh devotees to pay homage to the martyrdom site of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji on his martyrdom anniversary.
He said that for a long time the Jatha could not go on the occasion of Shaheedi Purab, but with the grace of Guru Sahib, this time the Jatha has got approval.
He said that according to the feelings of the Sikh Sangat, the governments of both the countries should ensure that this Jatha is sent every year.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Dharam Prachar Committee S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal said that this jatha will reach Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, from where it will go to Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sahib, Sheikhupura on June 11. On June 12, this jatha will leave for the Darshan of Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, from where it will reach Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Kartarpur Sahib on June 14. On June 15, the jatha will visit Gurdwara Sri Rori Sahib Aminabad and then reach Gurdwara Sri Dehra Sahib Lahore, where Sri Akhand Path Sahib will be inaugurated on June 16 regarding the martyrdom celebrations. On June 18, the jatha will participate in the martyrdom celebrations and the jatha will return to the country on June 19. On this occasion, Superintendent of Shiromani Committee S. Nishan Singh, S. Malkit Singh Beharwal, Incharge S. Jagjit Singh, S/Supervisor S. Karamjit Singh and others were present.
