PHAGWARA; Disabled persons staged a protest at the Civil Hospital in Phagwara and raised slogans against the hospital administration, alleging poor arrangements during a scheduled camp meant for their welfare and certification work.
According to protesters, including Palwinder Kumar, Mohan Lal and others, they had submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) earlier, requesting correction of errors in their disability certificates. Following this, they were given a time slot from 10 am to 1 pm for the camp work.
However, the protesters alleged that proper arrangements were not made at the hospital, causing unnecessary inconvenience and hardship to them. They said they were forced to wait for long hours despite their physical disabilities, which led to anger and protest at the site.
On the other hand, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Simarjit Kaur stated that the camp was delayed due to an urgent surgical operation being conducted by the orthopaedic doctor. She added that despite the delay, all cases related to the camp were eventually resolved.
Following the incident, tension was witnessed at the hospital premises for some time as the disabled persons continued their protest over the mismanagement.
