AMRITSAR: Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has dismantled a drug and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two brothers after recovering 5.5 kg heroin and four pistols along with 10 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.
Those arrested have been identified as Bobby Singh and Harjit Singh, both residents of village Rokhe in Ajnala, Amritsar. Apart from recovering contraband, police teams have also impounded their black colored Hero Splendor motorcycle bearing registration number PB02FC8820.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with a cross-border smuggler and had received arms/ammunition consignments for further distribution in the state.
Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amritsar had received a reliable input that suspects Bobby and Harjit had recently got a consignment of arms/ammunition and are going to deliver this consignment on their motorcycle in the area near Village Kale Ghanupur on bypass highway, Amritsar to another party.
Acting swiftly, police teams laid trap around the area and intercepted duo on the bypass in the area near Village Kale Ghanupur, he said, while adding that during their search, initially four pistols along-with 10 live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Following the disclosure statement of accused Bobby Singh, 5.5 kg heroin was further recovered from village Bhaka Tara Singh, he added.
The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages of this network to identify other associates connected to this module.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 35 dated 17-05-2026 under section 25, 25(1)(a) and 25(8) of the Arms Act, and section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, while, section 21 of the NDPS Act is also added later.
