Punjab: Crackdown on organised crime in Jalandhar; three arrested in Gurdaspur grenade case

CHANDIGARH: In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate busted an organised crime network, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.

The DGP also said that three people have been arrested following the recovery of a hand grenade in the state's Gurdaspur.

In a post on X, the Punjab police chief said that Jalandhar police have apprehended four accused and recovered eight sophisticated pistols, including a PX5 Pistol, a Zigana Pistol, three .30 bore pistols, and three .32 bore pistols, along with 45 live cartridges.

"Preliminary investigation reveals links of the accused with foreign-based handlers. Further, all the accused were evading arrest in two murder cases," he said.

He said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network.

"Punjab Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against organised crime, illegal arms trafficking, and anti-national activities to ensure a safe and secure state," the DGP asserted.

In another post, DGP Yadav said that Gurdaspur Police, in coordination with Punjab Counter Intelligence, have solved the case involving a hand grenade recovered on April 27 near Geeta Bhawan Road in the city.
