Sant Seechewal Urges Youth to Embrace Sports and Stay Away from Drugs, Five-Day 'Khed Mela' Begins at Seechewal
PHAGWARA: A five-day 'khed mela' being organized at Seechewal village in connection with the annual barsi smagam of Sant Avtar Singh Ji commenced today with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal inaugurated the event and encouraged young people to actively participate in sports and stay away from drugs.
A major highlight of today's hockey competitions was the participation of three international hockey players representing their respective teams. Varun Kumar, a member of India's bronze medal-winning hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics, played for the Mithapur team. Similarly, international hockey players Talwinder Singh and Gurjot Singh also showcased their skills on the Seechewal Astroturf ground.
The sports festival has attracted a total of 16 junior and 16 senior hockey teams from various regions of Punjab and Haryana. Teams from Nawanshahr, Gurdaspur, Kurukshetra (Haryana), Jalandhar, Moga, Sarinh, Kapurthala, Pathankot, and Amritsar are participating in the event. The hockey finals will be held tomorrow.
The festival will feature exciting competitions in hockey, kabaddi, wrestling, volleyball, and athletics. Wrestling events are scheduled for tomorrow, generating significant excitement among sports enthusiasts.
Teams from different districts arrived at Seechewal to participate in the hockey tournament, and the players displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the matches. The primary objective of the sports festival is to inspire children and youth to take up sports, promote a healthy lifestyle, and keep them away from social evils such as drug abuse.
Among those present on the occasion were Sant Sukhjit Singh, Surjit Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Joga Boota, Manjit Singh, Master Dilbag Singh, Sulakhan Singh (Panchayat Member), Gurtej Singh, Balwinder Singh Saropalwal, Coach Davinder Singh, Davinder Malhi, Varinder Singh, Dharaminder Singh, and several other distinguished personalities.
The organizers appealed to all sports lovers to become part of this initiative and contribute towards strengthening Punjab's rich sporting heritage.
