MOHALI: The University School of Agricultural Sciences (USAS), Rayat Bahra University, organized a five-day online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on the theme “Sustainable Development Goals – Advancing Education for a Sustainable Future,” aimed at equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to promote sustainability in teaching, research, and innovation.
The program began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Amita Mahajan, Dean, USAS, who stressed the need to align higher education with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She highlighted the responsibility of academic institutions in fostering environmentally conscious professionals and encouraging interdisciplinary learning.
The FDP featured expert lectures on diverse themes. A session on integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems with modern green chemistry explored blending traditional ecological wisdom with scientific advancements. Another session emphasized empowering educators through innovative pedagogy, capacity building, and value-based education.
A lecture on sustainable energy solutions discussed renewable technologies and conservation practices essential for inclusive growth. Additionally, a session on autotrophic microbes highlighted their role in soil fertility, carbon sequestration, and sustainable food systems.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and interactive sessions throughout the program. The FDP concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a significant initiative by USAS, RBU toward advancing sustainability through education and capacity building.
