Minor girl gang-raped: eight arrested

PHAGWARA: The Nakodar City police have arrested eight persons alleged to have gang raped a minor girl on Friday night. The Superintendent of Police (SP-D) Mukhtiar Rai said that the accused have been identified as Karan a resident of Mohala Sunder Nagar, Navneet Singh a resident of Ajaad Nagar backside Khadar Bhandar.Mukesh Kumar a resident of Mohalla Sunder Nagar, Vikral Raj a resident of Ajaad Nagar, Vicki Kumar a resident of Mohala Rehman Pura, and Ajay Kumar resident of Vijay Nagar colony, Mohalla Ravidass Pura and Pawan Kumar a resident of Sunder Nagar.

DSP said the accused were part of an eight-member gang involved in the crime. The victim a resident of the farflug region told the police that she came to pay her obeisance at Dera Murad Shah and could not find a room for a night stay so she went to Dera Baba Lalbash for a night stay where one accused lured her of help and kidnapped her and took her outside and forcibly raped her and invited other accused who gang-raped and threw her on a roadside in an unconscious condition and threatening to kill her.

DSP said that a case under sections 376-D(gang rape )120-B(criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation ) of the IPC and sections 6,17 of the Posco Act has been registered against the accused.

He said the medical examination of the victim was conducted which confirmed gang rape. Adding that Inspector Arash Deep Kaur is conducting further investigations.

This gruesome incident has created a sense of indignation and insecurity among residents and put a question mark on claims of police about night patrolling by special forces.
