Youth Red Cross training, study camp organized

MOHALI: A five-day State-level Red Cross training-cum-study camp was organized at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Solan, by Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Punjab State Branch, Chandigarh.

Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University Gurvinder Singh Bahra and Vice-Chancellor, RBU, Dr Parvinder Singh, conveyed their best wishes to the participating students.

Ten students of Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital (RBDCH) and two faculty members, Dr Anupriya and Dr Muskan, voluntarily participated in the camp. The initiative was taken by Principal Dr Akshey K Sharma and Dean Academics, RBDCH, Dr Neena Mehta and Dr Mandeep Kumar, Vice-Principal, RBDCH.

An interactive meeting was held at Saraswati Vidya Mandir hall where students met volunteers from different colleges of Punjab. The RBDCH volunteers had interactive sessions with students and teachers of other institutes and the Red Cross organizing team.

Over 100 students and teachers from different higher education institutes participated. Every morning a Yoga session was organized. The RBDCH students performed a skit on Anti-Tobacco Drug Cessation where they demonstrated ill effects of tobacco and smoking.

Dr Neena Mehta, Dean Academics , RBDCH, also visited the camp. She explained the importance of Red Cross camps and motivated the students to participate in more such social interactions.

A training program by Kulwinder Singh (First Aid trainer) on First-aid was organized. Participants were trained in CPR and were taught the kind of First Aid that could be lifesaving. Various activities like poetry recitation, group song, group dance, quiz, folk song and poster making were organised. The Red Cross organizing team also organized a trip to Shimla.

Closing ceremony was conducted at Saraswati Vidya Mandir and Chief Guest Shivdular Singh Dhillon (Retd IAS), Secretary IRCS Punjab State Branch, addressed the gathering and distributed prizes to the winners of various activities. Amarjit Singh, Senior Red cross member, felicitated the participants in the camp. The RBDCH students won various prizes including second prize in quiz competition and third prize in group dance (Bhangra).
