CHANDIGARH: A no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government was unanimously passed at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Janta Di Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh, with members raising the slogan: “Punjabi Kare Pukaar, Satta Chhade, Maan Sarkaar.” The House also condemned the Chief Minister for allegedly appearing in an inebriated state in the Assembly and demanded his impeachment.
Presenting the motion, Working President BJP Punjab and MLA Pathankot Ashwani Sharma launched a sharp attack, stating, “The government cares two hoots for High Court directions and has become anti-employee.” He alleged that crucial issues like gangsterism, drug deaths and law and order collapse are not being debated, adding, “AAP’s politics is built on untruth, and its promise to make Punjab drug-free has completely failed.” Targeting Arvind Kejriwal, Sharma accused the leadership of misleading people and diverting attention from real governance failures.
Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar termed the situation the “darkest hour of democracy.” He said, “The conduct of the Chief Minister has lowered the dignity of a constitutional office,” and added, “Bhagwant Mann is unfit to be the Chief Minister of Punjab.” Urging Arvind Kejriwal to act, Jakhar remarked, “Save Punjab—this state has been reduced to an ATM under your leadership.”
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh demanded accountability through stricter measures, stating, “If there is nothing to hide, why fear a narco test?” He alleged that labourers are being neglected, adding, “Workers are getting barely a fraction of promised employment, while the government fails to utilise central schemes.” Chugh further charged, “Financial mismanagement, disregard for court directions and suppression of media voices have become hallmarks of this government.”
Former NCSC Chairman Vijay Sampla said, “Not a single major promise made to Scheduled Castes has been fulfilled.” BJP leader Iqbal Singh Lalpura emphasised, “Respect for Sikh sentiments must go beyond symbolism.”
Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney raised economic concerns, stating, “We are facing a paradox—unemployment on one side and lack of trained manpower on the other,” and called for a shift toward long-term development policies.
The session concluded with BJP leaders asserting that the AAP government has failed on governance, broken public trust, and must be held accountable.
