Movement of General Traffic on Highway to Face Daily Restrictions During Amarnath Pilgrimage
SRINAGAR: : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, announcing daily restrictions on the movement of general traffic along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway during the annual pilgrimage.
According to the advisory, the pilgrimage will commence on July 3 and continue until August 28.
Police said that from July 3 onwards, general vehicular traffic traveling from Kashmir towards Jammu will not be permitted to cross Navyug Tunnel after 11:30 a.m. on a daily basis.
Similarly, vehicles traveling from Jammu towards Kashmir will not be allowed to cross Navyug Tunnel after 3:00 p.m. every day during the yatra period.
The advisory also specifies a series of cut-off timings at different locations along the highway for vehicles traveling towards Kashmir and Jammu.
For Kashmir-bound traffic, cut-off points have been established at Mir Bazar, Qazigund, Lower Munda and other designated locations, while separate timings have been notified for Jammu-bound vehicles at various points along the route.
Police have advised tourists, pilgrims and general commuters to plan their journeys well in advance and remain updated through official traffic advisories issued from time to time.
The advisory further urges travelers to commence their journeys early, follow instructions issued by traffic police and avoid unnecessary halts along the highway.
Authorities said the measures have been put in place to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrimage convoys and ensure the safety and security of pilgrims during the annual yatra.
Police have requested people to strictly adhere to the notified timings to avoid inconvenience and travel disruptions.
