CM Vijay congratulates V Mohana on historic elevation as Supreme Court judge
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday congratulated senior advocate V. Mohana on her nomination as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, describing her elevation as a landmark achievement for both Tamil Nadu and the country’s judiciary.
In an official statement, Vijay said Mohana had created history by becoming the first woman from Tamil Nadu to be elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court.
He noted that she is only the second woman in India to receive a direct appointment to the apex court from the legal profession without previously serving as a High Court judge.
The Chief Minister said Mohana’s achievement reflected her exceptional legal acumen, dedication, and years of distinguished service in the field of law.
Her elevation, he said, would inspire aspiring lawyers across the country, particularly women seeking to build careers in the legal profession.
“V. Mohana’s appointment is a matter of immense pride for Tamil Nadu. Her remarkable journey and accomplishments will encourage more women to pursue excellence in law and public service,” Vijay said.
He further observed that the appointment carried significance beyond the legal community, as it underscored the growing role of women in leadership positions and decision-making institutions.
CM Vijay extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mohana on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the people of the state, wishing her success and distinction in her new responsibilities as a Judge of the Supreme Court.
