JALANDHAR: In a major set back to Shiromani Akali (SAD) and rebel Akali leaders, the official candidate of SAD from Jalandhar West Surjit Kaur today joined Aam Aadmi Party(AAP). She was welcomed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at his Jalandhar residence.
Surjit Kaur was fielded by SAD from Jalandhar West bye-election to be held on July 10. The SAD had later announced to withdraw its candiate and extended support to BSP candidate. Surjit Karu however had refused to withdraw her nomination and she was supported by rebel Akali Dal leaders who have revolted against the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal.
In sudden turn of events, Surjit Kaur today morning reached the house of CM here and announced her decision to join AAP. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accorded her warm welcome and said that she would be given important assignment in the party.
The rebel Akali leaders led by Prem Singh Chandumajra and Sikandar Singh Maluka were canvassing for Surjit Kaur. She is wife of late Akali leader Pritam Singh Basti Mithu. With Surjit Kaur defecting to AAP, the SAD is our of contest now and it would be gain for AAP in the bye-election.
