Phagwara Man Arrested with 7 Grams of Heroin Under NDPS Act
PHAGWARA: The City Phagwara Police have arrested a man and registered a case under Sections 21 and 61/85 of the NDPS Act after allegedly recovering 7 grams of heroin from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Dharminder Kumar, a resident of Bank Side Railway Line, Chachoki Colony, Phagwara, in Kapurthala district.
Police said that a patrol team was present near the old Civil Hospital on Banga Road in Phagwara when they noticed a young man approaching from the opposite direction. On spotting the police, he allegedly became nervous and attempted to turn back. The police intercepted him and, during a search conducted in accordance with legal procedure, allegedly recovered 7 grams of heroin from his possession.
A case under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered, and the accused has been arrested. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and whether the accused has links to any drug trafficking network.
The entire recovery proceedings were videographed as part of the investigation, police added.
