Delhi: Rs 2 lakh online car fraud case solved, one arrested

NEW DELHI: The Cyber ​​Police Station of East District, Delhi, has solved a cyber fraud case involving the cheating of Rs 2,00,000 on the pretext of selling a second-hand car, officials said on Saturday. One accused has been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police, the accused impersonated an employee of a reputed online car-selling platform to gain the victim’s trust. He allegedly induced the complainant to transfer money as booking and processing charges and later absconded without delivering the vehicle.

The case was registered following a complaint by Harish, a resident of Trilokpuri in East Delhi. An E-FIR No. 127/26 dated April 16 was lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Cyber ​​Police Station, East District. In his complaint, Harish stated that he was approached by an unknown person offering to sell a second-hand car through an online platform.

“The accused convinced the complainant of the authenticity of the deal and persuaded him to transfer Rs 2,00,000. However, after receiving the money, he neither delivered the car nor returned the amount and stopped responding,” Delhi Police said.

After the registration of the case, an investigation was initiated. A dedicated team comprising SI Nikhlesh, Head Constable Rahul, Woman Head Constable Bhawna, and Constable Mohit was formed under the supervision of Inspector Pawan Yadav, SHO of Cyber ​​Police Station, East District, and under the overall guidance of Rajeev Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East District.

During the investigation, the team carried out a detailed financial and technical analysis. It was found that the defrauded amount had been transferred to a bank account maintained with the State Bank of India. Further examination of KYC documents, account activity, and digital evidence led to the identification of the suspect as Aman Sethi.
