CHANDIGARH: A total 63.94% votes polled in the Punjab Municipal general elections 2026. Voting took place to elect representatives for various municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats.
Polling began early in the morning at 8:00 AM under tight security arrangements and saw a steady stream of voters throughout the day. Long queues were witnessed outside polling booths in both urban and semi-urban localities, reflecting high civic engagement.
The State Election Commission confirmed that the polling process remained largely peaceful.
State Election Commission thanked the voters of Punjab for their enthusiastic participation in strengthening local self-governance. They also commended the polling staff, security personnel, and local administrations for the successful conduct of the democratic exercise.
The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on 29 May 2026.
