AMRITSAR: The meeting of the Interim Committee was held here today at the head office of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee under the leadership of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
Giving information about the decisions taken in the meeting through a press statement, the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that while passing a resolution in today's Interim Committee, the entire team of the film 'Sutlej', which depicts the police atrocities committed against Sikhs during the 80s and 90s, has been thanked for this work.
He said that it is a black truth that during this period, the Sikh youth were deliberately and systematically murdered. The soul of the Sikhs, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and many Gurdwaras were targeted. Sikh massacres were carried out in many cities including Delhi, Kanpur, Bokaro and after this, thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed in Punjab for a decade. Even the bodies of these Sikhs were not given to their families, which is why their families are still waiting to this day.
Advocate Dhami said that Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, who had the courage to bring out the truth about these innocent Sikhs who were killed, burnt as unclaimed and thrown into the canals and rivers, and fought for human rights, was also tortured to death by the police and his body was thrown into the canal at Harike Pattan.
He said that this series was the peak of government atrocities, remembering which even today the people of Punjab become numb.
In the resolution passed, the initiative of the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to offer collective prayers at Harike Pattan for the martyrs of the Sikh genocide was respected and commitment was expressed to the order given on this occasion.
Advocate Dhami said that in a similar manner, another resolution has been passed demanding justice for the Sikh youths who have been in jails for three decades. He said that during the anti-Sikh incidents that took place in Punjab after 1980, the governments targeted the holy places of Sikhs and Sikh youths. In protest against this, many youths were forced to take to the path of struggle. Many of them are still in jails today after serving sentences of three decades. These struggling youths have spent much more time in jails than the sentences given according to Indian law. Despite being in prison for a long time, the demand made by the Sikh community for their release is being ignored.
He said that on the other hand, the police officers who tortured Sikh youths and martyred innocent people and who have been found guilty by the courts are being given special concessions by the current government and every method is being used for their premature release.
He said that this double policy exposes the anti-Sikh face of the governments. Apart from this, approvals were given to matters of Gurdwaras, Trusts, Presses in the internal committee.
Meanwhile, in the meeting of the Dharam Prachar Committee, discussions were held to further intensify the Sikh propaganda movement.
