Former Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal resigned from Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal)

CHANDIGARH: Senior Akali leader and former Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and former speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha today resigned from Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). He has sent the resignation letter to party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Inder Iqbal Singh son of Charanjit Singh Atwal had earlier resigned from SAD and joined BJP. He is now BJP's candidate for Jalandhar Lok Sabha bye-election.

Charanjit Singh Atwal said that since BJP has fieled his son from Jalandhar, it is duty of family members to support him. He said that he has no moral right to continue in SAD so he decided to leave the party.

SAD is also contesting the Jalandhar bye-election with the support of BSP. SAD has fielded its Banga MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi from Jalandhar. The other candidates are Karamjit Kaur wife of late MP Santokh Singh from Congress and Sushil Kumar Rinku from AAP. He had resigned from Congress to join AAP.
