Fake FIRs and Police Intimidation Will Not Silence the Voice of Punjab's Youth: PYC president Shuvam Sharma
LUDHIANA: Punjab Youth Congress State President Shuvam Sharma (Shubi) has strongly condemned his detention by the Punjab Police at Ladowal Toll Plaza while he was on his way to Jalandhar to lead a peaceful democratic protest over issues concerning the youth, including the alleged NEET paper leak.
According to the Punjab Youth Congress, Shuvam Sharma was stopped and detained by the police before reaching Jalandhar. The organisation also alleges that police personnel threatened him during the incident in an attempt to stop the scheduled black-flag protest.
Following the detention, an FIR has been registered under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (corresponding to the erstwhile Sections 107 and 151 of the Indian Penal Code).
Reacting to the FIR, Punjab Youth Congress State President Shuvam Sharma (Shubi) said:
"Registering an FIR against me does not frighten me or the Punjab Youth Congress. If the government believes that false cases can silence us, they are mistaken. They can register one FIR or a hundred more—we are not afraid. Every false case only strengthens our resolve to fight for the rights of students, unemployed youth, and every young person whose future is being compromised."
He further added: "Our movement is peaceful, democratic, and dedicated to protecting the future of Punjab's youth. No police action, detention, or intimidation can stop us from raising our voice against injustice. We will continue to stand with every student and every young person who expects accountability from those in power."
Shuvam Sharma reiterated that the Punjab Youth Congress remains committed to its democratic struggle for transparency, accountability, fair examinations, employment opportunities, and the protection of the constitutional rights of every citizen.
