PHAGWARA: Hundreds of activists of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Punjab, on Friday staged a peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex in Kapurthala, demanding the protection and proper implementation of reservation provisions in the recruitment process for the recently announced Lecturer posts. The demonstration, led by Harinder Singh Sheetal, District President of BSP, Kapurthala, witnessed the participation of a large number of party workers and supporters from different parts of the district.
Holding placards and raising slogans in support of social justice and constitutional rights, the protesters expressed serious concern over what they described as irregularities in the implementation of reservation norms in the latest recruitment notification issued by the Punjab Government. The party leaders alleged that any dilution of reservation policies would adversely affect the employment opportunities of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and other reserved categories, besides undermining the constitutional safeguards provided to them.
Addressing the gathering, Harinder Singh Sheetal said that reservation is a constitutional right meant to ensure equal opportunities for historically disadvantaged sections of society and should be implemented in both letter and spirit. He urged the Punjab Government to rectify the alleged discrepancies in the recruitment process and ensure complete transparency while filling the Lecturer posts. He asserted that the BSP would continue its democratic struggle until justice is ensured for deserving candidates from the reserved categories.
During the protest, a delegation of the party, led by Harinder Singh Sheetal, submitted a detailed memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, highlighting the party's concerns and demanding immediate intervention. The memorandum called upon the state government to review the recruitment notification, strictly adhere to the prescribed reservation roster, safeguard the constitutional rights of reserved category candidates, and remove any anomalies that could adversely affect fair representation in government employment.
The BSP leaders warned that if the government failed to address their demands within a reasonable time, the party would be compelled to intensify its agitation across Punjab through peaceful and democratic means. They reiterated that the struggle was aimed at protecting the interests of marginalized communities and ensuring that reservation policies are implemented without deviation.
