Panjab University Invites Applications for Anthropology Courses for Academic Session 2026-27

CHANDIGARH: The Department of Anthropology, Panjab University (PU) invites applications for its undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and Ph.D. programmes for the academic session 2026-27. The department is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) in Anthropology under NEP 2020, M.Sc. (Honours) with Research, Diploma in Forensic Science and Criminology, and Ph.D. programmes.
For the M.Sc. (Honours) with Research/M.Sc. (Honours) (two year) programme, admissions will be based on merit. Candidates with a B.Sc. degree under NEP/CBCS framework OR the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) OR the 10+2+3 system of education from Panjab University or its equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized Indian/Foreign University or Institute.
OR
a bachelor’s degree in any stream with science subjects at the 10+2 level and at least 50 per cent marks are eligible.
The Diploma in Forensic Science and Criminology will also admit students on merit basis. (a) Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree of P.U. subject to having +2 with Science or any equivalent exam with 50 % marks.
OR
(b) an equivalent examination of any other University recognized by Syndicate as equivalent to (a) above with 50 % marks are eligible.
The B.Sc. (Hons.) in Anthropology programme has 30 seats along with NRI and foreign national seats. Admission will be based on PU-CET (UG), with 75 per cent weightage to the entrance test and 25 per cent to academics. Candidates who have passed Class 12 with at least 50 per cent marks and studied English along with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology from recognized Board / CBSE are eligible to apply.
The department presently has laboratories and facilities including Anthropometry Laboratory, Molecular and Biochemical Anthropology Laboratory, Palaeoanthropology and Prehistoric Archaeology Unit, Dermatoglyphics Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, Museum of Man and Seminar Hall.
Alumni have secured positions in reputed organisations such as Boeing and Nokia and have also served in institutions including PGIMER, GMCH-32, ICMR and Anthropological Survey of India. Several students have also pursued higher studies and research abroad.
Established in 1960 by Late Prof. S.R.K. Chopra, the Department of Anthropology is known for its work in palaeoanthropology, forensic anthropology, molecular anthropology, medical anthropology and socio-cultural anthropology. The department has also made notable discoveries of primate and mammalian fossils from the Siwaliks and has received support under UGC-ASIHSS, FIST-DST and UGC Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS).
