Kapurthala Bar Association Intensifies Protest Against LADC System; Eight Senior Lawyers Begin Indefinite Hunger Strike
PHAGWARA: The District Bar Association, Kapurthala, has intensified its agitation against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) System, with eight senior advocates commencing an indefinite hunger strike from Monday. The fast began with an Ardas led by District Bar Association President Advocate S.S. Malli in the presence of a large number of lawyers who gathered to extend their support to the protest.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate S.S. Malli said the Bar Association would continue its struggle against the LADC System with full determination. He asserted that the indefinite hunger strike would continue until the government withdraws the system, adding that the movement has been launched to safeguard the rights and interests of the legal fraternity while opposing the implementation of the LADC mechanism.
The advocates participating in the indefinite hunger strike include District Bar Association President Advocate S.S. Malli, Secretary Advocate Amandeep Singh, former Press Secretary Advocate T.S. Dhillon, Advocate Ranbir Rawat, former Secretary Advocate Hamish Kumar, former Secretary Advocate Sandeep Singh, Advocate Naveen Kapoor and Advocate Surinder Kumar.
Several members of the Bar, including Advocates Harry Sharma, J.J.S. Arora, Rajbir Bawa, Sandeep Singh Walia, Kalia, N.S. Noor, Parmjit Singh Lidhar, S.P.S. Khinda, Madhav Parashar and Darshan Singh, were also present and expressed solidarity with the ongoing protest, reaffirming their support for the Bar Association’s demand to roll back the LADC System.
