Hockey player recruited as DSP in Punjab Police booked for raping a minor girl

CHANDIGARH: Indian Hockey team player Varum Kumar who was appointed DSP in Punjab Police under sports quoata by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been booked for raping a minor girl.

Varun Kuar is a Arjuna award-winning player of Indian Hockey team.

A case under POCSO act was registered against Varun Kumar in Bengaluru in Karnataka, it is learnt. A police team from Karnataka has reached Jalandhar to arrest the national hockey player. Varun is orginally from Himachal Pradesh but his family lives in Jalandhar in Punjab.

The victim girls has lodged a complaint in Bengaluru that she was raped by Varun when she was 17 years old and her exploitation continued for five years on the promise of marrying her. She is 21 now and told Varun to mary her. She alleged that Varun had refused to marry her.

The victim came in contact with Varun Kumar in 2019 through instagram when he was attending a training camp in Bengaluru Sports Authority of India center..
