The Amritsar District Magistrate declares June 1 and 4 as dry days

AMRITSAR: Keeping in view the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 which is to be held on 1st June 2024 and counting is to be held on 4th June 2024, District Magistrate Mr. Ghansham Thori, using the powers conferred under the Punjab Excise Act 1914, has demarcated the limits of District Amritsar. Sale of liquor has been banned from 6 PM on 30 May 2024 till the completion of polling on 1 June 2024 and on the day of counting of votes on 4 June 2024.

Similarly, in order to prevent entry of drones and other unauthorized items from across the border into the border area, the District Magistrate exercised the powers conferred under the Punjab, Village and Small Town Patrol Act, 1918 by adults in the border area of Amritsar 24 hours a day. Vigilance orders have been issued so that no drugs or weapons can be smuggled. In this, senior citizens above 60 years and disabled persons have been exempted. This order will be in force from 24th May to 4th June 2024.

In order to conduct the elections peacefully, the District Magistrate has issued orders prohibiting the carrying of any megaphone, mobile phone, wireless set or loud speaker within a radius of 100 meters of all the polling stations in the district of Amritsar. District Magistrate Mr. Ghansham Thori in exercise of the powers vested under Section 144 of the Penal Code, 1973, this order shall remain in force on 1st June 2024 from 8:00 am till the end of polling in the evening. This order will not apply to officers/employees posted on election duty.

Along with this, the District Magistrate has also banned the playing of loud speakers in the district which will be effective from 5:00 PM on 30th May 2024 till the end of polling on 1st June 2024. Similarly, the District Magistrate shall carry all types of firearms, explosives, inflammable items and sharp weapons including machetes, spears, knives etc. within 100 meters radius of the polling stations in order to conduct the election process in a law and order manner. The ban order will remain in force from today till the end of polls on 1 June 2024.
