Punjab Congress demonstrates walkout in response to speaker's failure to address privilige motion against CM

CHANDIGARH:The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, led by Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa today staged a walkout from the Vidhan Sabha. The action was taken in response to inaction from the Speaker regarding Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's use of derogatory language against Dalit MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli during a Vidhan Sabha session.

Addressing the media, PPCC Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring expressed deep concern, stating, "Over the past two years, we have witnessed a continuous decline in political decorum under the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party government. The recent incident involving the CM's disruptive behavior underscores the need for accountability."

Echoing these sentiments, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa remarked, "The conduct displayed by the CM during the session was a grave departure from the established norms of the Vidhan Sabha. Such language has no precedent in the history of our assembly, particularly when directed towards a Dalit representative. Despite our calls for action, promises from the Speaker have remained unfulfilled."

Congress MLA Sukhwinder Kotli showcased disapproval at the actions of the CM – “It is extremely shameful that the CM of our state resorted to such treatment against me. It is very hurtful to be subjected to such behavior even though I am also as much a member of the honorable house as CM Mann. The incident has highlighted deep rooted issues within the state of Punjab against my community and its people. The CM has to be held accountable for his actions and we will ensure the same.”

Warring emphasized, "The persistent inaction of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab is concerning. We have repeatedly sought meaningful dialogue on critical issues affecting our state, including the plight of farmers. However, our concerns have fallen on deaf ears."

He concluded by asserting, "The absence of discourse on the pressing issues faced by our farming community is alarming. We demand dedicated deliberation on farmer welfare and prompt action to address their grievances. It is essential that we use at least an entire day to discuss about the farmers of our state and plan how to provide them with support. A number of regions of Punjab and their farms have been ruined due to the recent hailstorms but still nothing is being done by the AAP government. The farmers haven’t received previous compensations yet and new ones are already piling on. It is imperative that we unite as guardians of Punjab to advocate for their rights and challenge the indifference of authorities towards their plight."
