Manpreet Singh Ayali Quits SAD (Punar Surjit), Says Won’t Join Any Other Party
CHANDIGARH: Manpreet Singh Ayali on Tuesday resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit), creating fresh ripples in Punjab’s Akali politics. The former Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader announced that he would not join any other political party and would continue to serve people independently.
Ayali, who represents the Dakha Assembly constituency and is considered an influential Akali face in Ludhiana district, said his decision was taken after careful consideration. Though he did not elaborate in detail on the reasons behind his resignation, he indicated differences over political functioning and ideology.
His exit is being seen as a setback for the SAD (Punar Surjit) faction, which was formed amid efforts to revive traditional Akali politics after internal divisions within the Shiromani Akali Dal. Ayali had earlier distanced himself from the Badal-led Akali Dal and later joined the Punar Surjit group in the hope of strengthening an alternative Akali platform.
Political observers believe the resignation reflects the continuing instability and factionalism within Punjab’s Akali politics. The Akali leadership has been struggling to regain political ground in the state following electoral setbacks and internal disputes over the past few years.
Ayali clarified that despite resigning from the party, he would remain active in public life and continue raising issues concerning Punjab and its people. His statement ruling out joining another party has triggered speculation in political circles about whether he may chart an independent political course in the future.
The development has once again highlighted the shifting political equations within Punjab’s regional political landscape ahead of future elections.
