CHANDIGARH: Punjab’s government schools have scripted a major turnaround in public education, with 416 Government Schools recording a perfect 100% pass result in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 12 examinations under the Bhagwant Mann Government’s Sikhya Kranti. As girls dominated the merit list and pass percentage once again, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday hailed the daughters of Punjab for spearheading the state’s educational resurgence after three students, Supneet Kaur from Mansa and Suhani Chauhan and Divyanshi from Ludhiana, scored a flawless 500 out of 500 marks.
In a major boost to confidence in government education, 122 of the 275 students in the merit list are from Government Schools, signalling a dramatic transformation in Punjab’s education system driven by infrastructure upgrades, modern classrooms and focused academic reforms under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann honoured Supneet Kaur from Mansa, Suhani Chauhan from Ludhiana and Divanshi from Ludhiana for securing a perfect score of 500 out of 500 marks in the examinations. The Chief Minister presented each student with a cash prize of ₹50,000 in recognition of their exceptional achievement.
Interacting with the students, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that all the three toppers are national and state-level players, which clearly shows that they are excelling in every field.” He added, “All the toppers belong to humble backgrounds and want to excel in life through hard work and dedication. The Punjab Government will extend full support and cooperation to them in achieving their dreams.”
Highlighting the continued outstanding performance of girls in academics, the Chief Minister stated, “It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that with the spread of education in society, girls have outshined boys not only in academics but in every field.” He further stated, “Time has proved that girls are not inferior to boys in any context and by excelling in academics, they have shown that there is no match for their wisdom, skills and expertise.”
Describing this achievement as a reflection of true empowerment, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This is the real empowerment of girls, which marks a new beginning for their socio-economic resurgence and the stupendous progress of Punjab and the country.”
Sharing details of the results, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that around 2.65 lakh students had appeared in the examinations, out of which approximately 2.42 lakh students passed, taking the overall pass percentage to nearly 91.46 percent. He stated, “The pass percentage of girl students has been 94.73 percent, while that of boys is 88.52 percent.” He further added that Amritsar district registered the highest pass percentage in the state at 96 percent.
The Chief Minister also noted that Patiala district recorded the highest number of merit holders, with 59 students making it to the merit list.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Continuing the trend of previous years, girls have once again outshined boys in the results. Out of the total 278 students in the merit list, 217 are girls while only 61 are boys.”
Highlighting the improving standards of government schools, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Due to the strenuous efforts of the Punjab Government, as many as 122 students from government schools have secured positions in the merit list, which is more than 50 percent of the total merit holders.” He added, “It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that 416 government schools have recorded 100 percent results in these examinations.”
During the interaction, one of the toppers expressed her desire to join the Indian Air Force as a pilot. Encouraging her, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Girls aspiring to join the Armed Forces should enrol in the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls at SAS Nagar, Mohali.”
The Chief Minister said, “The institute is performing exceptionally well and is the only fully residential institute of its kind in the country that trains young girls for careers as commissioned officers in the Defence Services.” He further added, “Girls are trained physically and mentally to compete at the national level with a high degree of assurance to crack AFCAT, CDS and SSB examinations.”
