CHANDIGARH: The farmer leaders of Punjab with vested interests are in the eye of storm due to their dirty politics being played due to vested interests. The people of Punjab and those visiting Punjab are facing acute harrassment due to road blockades.
Certain farmer unions having affiliation with opposition parties are on the forefront to distablise Bhagwant Singh Mann government in Punjab. The disruption of road traffic by farmers is seen as ploy by opposition parties to benefit a political party in Gujarat elections. The AAP spokesman Malwinder Singh has claimed most of the demands of farmers pending for decades have been accepted. He is surprised over the action of farmer organisations.
Farmers in Punjab are blocking traffic at about 6 places in the states and it became a major nuisance. Previous governments of Parkash Singh Badal and Capt Amarinder Singh were not resolving issues of farmers but farmer unions failed to act against them. Rather a general opinon was that farmer leaders are supporting Congress and SAD in elections. Even in recent assembly elections, Balbir Singh Rajewal of BkU fielded his candidates on all seats to divide farmers votes in favour of AAP.
Farmers might have genuine grievances as some of their long pending demands are still waiting to be resolved but blocking all roads is not the sulution. Many farmer leaders like Ruldu Singh Mansa have taken stand against blocking road traffic and causing harrassment to people.
Certain political sources have blamed a national party having political interest in Gujarat for instigating the farmers. The farmers are forcing the government to use force against the agitating farmers and it can become a flash point in Gujrat elections where farmer community is supporting AAP.
During the AAP government, it is first time that farmers got 24 hour power supply and got payment of paddy procurement within 24 hours. The common farmers are against action of farmer unions and a resentment is building up against farmers bodies.
