PHAGWARA: Phagwara Police have arrested Prabhjot Singh, accused of sexually molesting a six‑year‑old girl inside a local Gurudwara, following swift action triggered by a complaint from the child’s mother.
Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma told that the police have registered case under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 8 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, after the family reported the incident and locals helped detain the suspect.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on 4 June when the girl, visited Gurudwara Onkar Nagar to collect parshaad. During her visit, Prabhjot Singh—son of the Gurudwara’s Granthi—allegedly took her into a room and attempted inappropriate physical contact. The child informed her mother upon returning home, prompting the family to confront the accused the next day.
When approached on 5 June, Prabhjot Singh reportedly attempted to flee the Gurudwara premises but was caught by local residents and handed over to the police. Officers confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and that the investigation is underway.
