Minor Girl with Fractured Leg Found Abandoned Near Canal; Identity Still Unknown

KAPURTHALA: A minor girl with a fractured leg has been undergoing treatment after being found abandoned near a canal in the Dhilwan area of Kapurthala district, with police intensifying efforts to establish her identity and trace those responsible.
According to information available, the girl was first brought to a local civil hospital by unidentified persons. Doctors, upon examination, found that her left leg was fractured, after which she was admitted for treatment. Despite receiving medical care for over a week, no family member has come forward to claim her, raising concerns about her background and circumstances.
Preliminary inputs gathered by the police suggest that two youths on a motorcycle allegedly left the girl near the canal before fleeing the scene. The injured minor reportedly tried to seek help, following which she was noticed and shifted to the hospital.
Medical sources indicated that the girl has also shown signs of malnourishment and physical distress. Her condition is being closely monitored by hospital staff, who are providing necessary treatment and care.
Police officials said that attempts are being made to identify the girl through local inquiries and coordination with nearby villages. “We are verifying all possible angles, including abandonment and other potential offences. The priority at present is to ensure the child’s safety and establish her identity,” an investigating officer said.
Authorities are also considering seeking assistance from child welfare agencies to facilitate her rehabilitation and protection. Further action will be initiated once her identity is confirmed and statements can be recorded.
The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of children and the need for timely reporting and intervention in such incidents.
