55,200 Cigarettes sticks having market value Rs.9,38,400/- seized

Lady passengers from Pakistan intercepted with Gold handles fitted with utensils with silver colour coating
AMRITSAR: On baggage scanning, officers of Baggage SGRDJI Airport, Customs (preventive) Commissionerate, Amritsar intercepted a passenger who had arrived at SGRDJ (Shri Guru Ramdas ji International Airport), Amritsar on 01.08.2024 form Singapore by SCOOT flight no TR 512. Their personal search was conducted along with their baggage, resulting into recovery of 55,200 sticks of cigarettes from the passenger valued at Rs. 9,38,400/-.

The smuggled cigarettes were seized on 02.08.2024 under relevant provisions of Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under process, said Custom offical.

In another seizure, on profiling basis, officers of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Amritsar intercepted 2 passengers who had arrived at SGRDJ International Airport, Amritsar on 02.08.2024 from Sharjah by Air India Express flight no. IX138. The passengers were intercepted on the basis of information and their personal search was conducted. Baggage search resulted in recovery of 51,000 sticks of cigarettes from two passengers valued at Rs. 8,67,000.

The smuggled cigarettes were seized on 02.08.2024 under relevant provisions of Customs Act, 1962.

In a third seizure by the Custom department, whereupon a female passenger was returning from Pakistan and heading towards Noida via land route through ICP Attari Border. While examining her baggage utensils brought by her looked suspicious. Further examination revealed the handles of the utensils were made of gold disguised with silver colour coating.

The 24 Carat gold in handles of utensils were seized on 01.08.2024 under relevant provisions of Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is in progress.
