Balbir Singh Sidhu Questions AAP Government's Performance Amid Heaps of Garbage
MOHALI: Senior Congress leader and former Health Minister S. Balbir Singh Sidhu today visited Sector-66, Mohali, and strongly criticized the Punjab Government over the heaps of garbage, foul smell, and deteriorating sanitation conditions in the area. He said that in several parts of Mohali, garbage has made it difficult for people to even step out of their homes, while the unbearable stench has forced residents to live in conditions resembling hell.
Sidhu said that before the elections, the Aam Aadmi Party and Mohali MLA S. Kulwant Singh had made tall promises of transforming Mohali into a clean and well-developed city. However, today Mohali is becoming known for heaps of garbage and foul smell instead.
He further said that when the MLA, the Mayor, and the Punjab Government all belong to the Aam Aadmi Party, who will take responsibility for this shameful situation? Will the AAP still continue to blame others, or will it accept responsibility for its own failures?
Sidhu said that stray cattle are roaming freely on the roads of Sector-66 and surrounding areas, posing a serious threat to public safety and increasing the risk of road accidents. He stated that during his tenure, a gaushala (cow shelter) was established to provide a permanent solution to this problem by giving stray cattle a safe place and keeping city roads free from them. However, at that time, AAP MLA S. Kulwant Singh had questioned the very construction of the gaushala. Today, neither has the problem of stray cattle been resolved nor has the city's sanitation improved. This clearly shows that the Aam Aadmi Party was never interested in solving public issues but only in playing politics. If they opposed the construction of the gaushala, then why have they failed to provide a permanent solution after coming to power?
Sidhu said that if MLA S. Kulwant Singh cannot even ensure basic civic amenities like cleanliness from his own government, then what is the purpose of his representation? People do not need speeches; they need a clean city and an accountable administration.
He further said that heaps of garbage have led to foul smell, a growing menace of flies and mosquitoes, and an increasing risk of disease outbreaks. Yet, the government and the Municipal Corporation officials appear to be in deep slumber. These conditions reflect the true picture of the Aam Aadmi Party's so-called "change."
Warning the Punjab Government, Sidhu said that if immediate action is not taken to launch a special cleanliness drive, remove the heaps of garbage, and improve sanitation services, the Congress Party, along with the people, will intensify its agitation on this public issue.
