DBU establishes Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore

MANDI GOBINDGARH: Under the esteemed Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Desh Bhagat University inaugurated the Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore, and Culture, a significant initiative dedicated to preserving and promoting Punjab's rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

In commemoration of this milestone, an expert lecture titled ‘Dr. M.S. Randhawa: Founder of Folklore Studies and the Architect of Modern Punjab’ was organized in the Rabaab Conference Hall.

Chancellor Dr Zora Singh applauded Desh Bhagat University's commitment to the promotion of Punjabi language and culture, aligning with the Punjab government's initiative. He acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and speakers in paying tribute to Dr. M.S. Randhawa's legacy.

Director Prof. Dr Devinder Kumar highlighted the immense contributions of Dr. M.S. Randhawa to Punjab's cultural heritage and emphasized the holistic approach fostered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages through various dedicated initiatives.

Dr. Dharminder Singh, coordinator of the Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore, and Culture, provided a profound exploration of Dr. M.S. Randhawa's life and contributions. He underlined Dr. Randhawa's vision for a modern Punjab rooted in cultural heritage and outlined the Centre's contributions to promoting the Punjabi language, culture, and folklore.
The expert speaker, Daljit Kaur Hathoor, Director of Harbans Virasat Academy and Principal of Jagat Sewak Khalsa College Mehna, Moga, delivered a captivating presentation, shedding light on Dr. Randhawa's pioneering work in folklore studies. She emphasised Dr. Randhawa's tireless efforts in documenting and preserving Punjab's rich oral traditions.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Ram Singh Gurna highlighted Dr. Randhawa's enduring legacy and expressed gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their participation. The establishment of the Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore, and Culture marks a significant step towards celebrating Punjab's linguistic tapestry and cultural pride, he added.
