Punjab sugarcane-grower farmers again on agitational path

PHAGWARA: Resentment again prevailed among the farmers belonging to Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) due to non payment of the sugarcane growers by the management of Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills Phagwara.

Though deputation of the farmers led by BKU Gen.Sect Satnam Singh Sahni met Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Amit Kumar Panchal and Phagwara SDM Jashanjit Singh in support of their demands but the assurances of the officers in the meetings could not be fruitful.

As Phagwara Administration had offered to auction 07 Kanals of land beside the Sugar Mill to procure funds for the payment of sugarcane farmers, but farmer leaders have demanded that total 10 Kanal 12 Marla of land falling beside the Sugar Mill should be marked for auction.

The Farmers were demanding full payment by Sugar Mill management which could be collected after auction of the land.

Later the farmers went to Shambhu border to prepare strategy for the next agitation after getting support of the other farmers organisations.

It is further gathered that after discussions with farmer organisations at Shambhu Border Haryana they could announce their further course of protest program in Phagwara. Farmers are going to organise a meeting on September 28 to finalise the next strategy.
