CHANDIGARH: The National Students’ Union of India Punjab President, Isherpreet Singh Sidhu, has strongly condemned the arrest of Karanveer Singh, a student peacefully protesting for Senate Elections at the Panjab University Bachao Morcha, and the alleged manhandling by SHO Narinder.

Speaking on the incident, Sidhu said, “This is nothing short of a brutal assault on democracy. The students were exercising their democratic right to dissent, yet they were harassed, silenced, and subjected to state-sponsored tyranny. Arresting a student for peaceful protest is an attack on the very principles of justice and fairness.”

Sidhu further highlighted the grave implications of such actions, stating, “This is exactly how Punjab is losing its brightest minds and pushing its youth into a cycle of frustration and rebellion. The oppressive tactics used by the police to ridicule students, including comments like ‘you will never be able to pursue civil services or other administrative examinations, ’ are deplorable. It is this environment of humiliation and suppression that breeds resentment and creates figures like Lawrence Bishnoi.”

The NSUI Punjab President also called for immediate and strict action against SHO Narinder. “Using power to attack and humiliate a student who was protesting peacefully is nothing but an abuse of authority. SHO Narinder must be suspended immediately, and a thorough inquiry must be conducted to hold him accountable. Such incidents undermine trust in the system and tarnish the image of the police force, ” Sidhu asserted.

NSUI Punjab stands firmly with the students and demands that their voices be respected rather than silenced. Sidhu urged the higher authorities, including the DGP Punjab Police and SSP Chandigarh, to intervene and ensure justice. He concluded, “The youth of Punjab deserve better. They deserve to be heard, respected, and empowered—not silenced and oppressed. We will not stand by as the rights of our students are trampled upon.”
