AMRITSAR: It is crucial to convey Amritsar's rich heritage to the new generation so that they can understand the significance of our culture and heritage. These were the words expressed by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney during the Heritage Walk, organized by the Tourism Department of Punjab on the occasion of World Heritage Day. Madam Sakshi Sawhney, along with the assistance of the Voice of Amritsar and the Aghaaz NGO, led the Heritage Walk from Town Hall to various parts of the city.

The Heritage Walk began at Town Hall and passed through key heritage sites such as Gurdwara Saragarhi, Qila Ahluwalia, Jalebi Wala Chowk, Udasi Ashram Akhara Sangla Wala, Darshani Deori, Chaurasti Attari, Baba Bohar, Katra Kharian Street, and old bazaars, culminating back at Town Hall. She emphasized that the primary purpose of this walk is to educate the younger generation and the visitors of Amritsar about the city's heritage.

She also announced the launch of a QR code system aimed at providing information about Amritsar's heritage to the large number of pilgrims who visit the city daily. Many pilgrims are unaware of the rich history of Amritsar, and now, with the help of the district administration, a QR code has been launched to provide information about the city's heritage. The QR code will be displayed at key locations such as the bus stand, railway station, airport, and major city squares, allowing visitors to scan the code with their smartphones and access information about various heritage spots in Hindi, Punjabi, and English.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney highlighted that this initiative will greatly benefit pilgrims, providing them with crucial information about Amritsar’s important buildings and heritage. She further emphasized that Amritsar is one of the oldest cities in terms of history, and it is everyone's responsibility to preserve its rich heritage. She urged parents to educate their children about this heritage so they can be aware of their priceless history.

On this occasion, SDM Mankamal Chahal, Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Gursimran Kaur, Red Cross Secretary Samson Masih, Tehsildar Rajinder Kaur, Convenor of INTACH Chapter Mr. Gagandeep Singh Virk, Guide and President of Amritsar Foundation Mr. Gurinder Singh Johal, Tourist Officer Mr. Sukhmandeep Singh, Mrs. Mandeep Singh, along with a large number of school children and general citizens, were present.
