KAPURTHALA: Panic spread in the Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision on Sunday after the body of an unidentified man, dressed in saffron-coloured clothes, was found in the sacred Kali Bein.
According to information available, the body was spotted in the river, following which the police were informed and reached the spot. After considerable efforts, volunteers associated with Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal retrieved the body from the water.
The deceased, whose identity has not yet been established, is believed to be around 60 to 65 years old. He was reportedly wearing saffron-coloured clothes when the body was recovered.
The police took the body into custody and shifted it to the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi, where it has been kept for identification and further investigation.
SHO Sultanpur Lodhi Davinder Pal said that efforts were currently underway to establish the identity of the deceased. The police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and examining how the body came to be in the Kali Bein.
The discovery of an unidentified body in the sacred waterway led to concern among local residents. Police officials said that the exact cause of death would become clear after the investigation and post-mortem examination. The circumstances of the incident are being examined, while efforts to identify the deceased are continuing.
