Age no bar for learning - shooter dadi won four medals
CHANDIGARH: Age is no bar for learning and following your childhood passion , said Suman Bansal .She at the age of 67 has won four medals in recently held 51st Chandigarh State Shooting Champion including 2 gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.
She had passion for shooting since his school time after she attended a NCC camp and had an ambition in mind for shooting, but marriage and family responsibilities kept her away from her dream. Two years ago she discussed her ambition with her husband Dr. Surinder Bansal,retired Director Punjab Health systems Corporation.
Surinder said that she got married when she was in BA Part2 and life continued after marriage. In decades after marriage she settled her children and now she is grandmother. Two years back after she became free from all family responsibilities I searched for a shooting range to get her ambition fulfilled and she joined sector 25 shooting range . In her 1st year she won Gold medal at state and north zone level in her senior master women category in 10 metre and she qualified for national level competition and she remained at 4th position last December at national level. In May she took part in Kumar Sundaram national level shooting competition and got silver. This July she took part in Chandigarh state level competition and got Gold medal in 10 metre and 50 metre senior master category and silver medal in 50 metre & bronze medal in 10 metre master women category.
Neerja Gupta, a family friend said that at this age when women go for kitty parties she opted to fulfill her school time dream with help from her husband. Now she has a regular shooting schedule at Punjab university and police range and a symbol of inspiration for senior ladies.
She is also passionate for music and joined a one year diploma course in instrumental music at panjab university chandigarh this session .
